A Lunchtime Outing

Once again Rochedale State High School students hosted Elements residents and people from other retirement villages to sample the results of their hard work. This time we were invited to lunch. Although it was raining we had an enjoyable day. We were 14 in total and, as the bus was unavailable, we found our way […]

Brisbane City Hall Tour

On Wednesday 3rd June, eleven residents of our village hopped on the Village Bus and were driven to the city by Chris Anderson, arriving directly at the front door of the city hall at 10am. As we were early for our 10.30am tour, we were asked by the City Hall staff if we would like […]

Our first 90th Birthday celebration!

Congratulations to Charles on reaching this significant birthday milestone. Our usual Friday Happy Hour became a truly festive occasion to mark the event. It was made special, not just with the usual cake and drink, but with a magnificent pig-on-the-spit. And a pig stuffed with a turkey, no less… is this a Turpig? A bread […]

A trip to Yatala Pies to satisfy our hunger.

There’s always people lining up to head to the Yatala Pie Shop for morning tea, and again there was a bus load. Coffee and goodies were enjoyed and pies bought for a scrumptious and easy meal later. A bonus trip to Nielsen’s Nursery ensued, with some people enjoying the beautiful day in their attractive gardens […]

Food, Farm and Factory Tour

The 29th April was a full day of fun and food for a dozen keen residents on the Food, Farm and Factory Tour. Our tour bus met us at Beenleigh and from there it was not the number of kilometres traveled that mattered but the variety of places visited and the interesting information provided by […]

It’s Hobbit Town For These Travelling Residents

As they always do, Lois and Tony enjoyed their cruising holiday, once again taking in the offerings of our neighbours across the ditch. Here are a couple of items Lois gleaned from that trip: A bit of interesting trivia from Wellington, New Zealand. Whilst Tony and Lois were crossing a main road in Wellington, a […]

Turkey Calls For Our Travelling Residents

Leaving recently were Ted and Elly, off to visit family in Turkey and to explore surrounding exotic and sacred lands. They left on Thursday 16th April, and by Saturday Elly was already posting some photos on Facebook for us to share with you all. We look forward to more photos and stories of their travels.

Easter Monday Morning Tea

Around 28 people attended the Easter Monday morning tea in the bush garden. Easter buns, home-made Rocky Road (thanks Lois) and chockies were on offer. It was such a relaxed way to spend the morning, even if some of us were playing musical chairs to chase the shade!

Talking Workshop Safety

The visitor to the workshop was Ron Hawkey who belongs to the Tweed Valley Woodcrafters Association, based at the Murwillumbah Show Grounds.  While Charles has been involved in wood craft for around 10 years, Ron’s involvement has been much longer.  He is particularly adept at producing pens, hence his amazing array that he brought to […]

Craft and Chat

Craft and Chat mornings continue every Tuesday, providing space and time for our women residents away  from the everyday concerns. There’s always much sharing and laughter, and lots of good stories.  One recent Tuesday, a special card making session was presented, where those who wished had a go at making their very own cards. The […]
