Indigiscapes Centre Visit

A bus full of Elements residents visited the Redland IndigiScapes Centre this month, just a 30 minute drive away from our village. Our horticulturally-minded community members were very interested in learning about native flora and fauna, at the same time getting plenty of ideas for their own gardens back at Elements.

The IndigiScapes Centre works to restore conservation areas; the Elements location, situated right next to Daisy Hill Conservation Park, is one of our retirement living complex’s many attractive features. It’s no surprise that this was a very popular trip!

The morning was spent exploring the immediate surroundings in smaller groups. IndigiScapes bush gardens are dotted with various types of garden art and furniture which were very impressive. Most of our visiting residents took many of these ideas back home with them.

The entire group then met up at the Bushtucker Café for lunch. The menu, which offered locally inspired dishes still managed to sound very exotic. In fact, it was so hard to make a choice, many residents ended up sharing plates.

Our enthusiastic company of flora fanatics were then taken on a bush tour led by a personal guide who explained how to plant and maintain bush plots to encourage local wildlife and create natural planting schemes in local gardens. It was also good to learn how we can all play a part, however small, in supporting conservation schemes in our local communities. The tour went at a gentle pace so no-one got left behind.

Then it was time to get back on the bus for the short trip home and straight into our own gardens to start planning those fresh ideas!
