Anzac Day

The 25th of April is one of Australia’s most important military commemorative occasions, and more than 60 of our Elements residents met at the community centre for an afternoon of remembrance and gratitude.

The Elements’ ceremony was scheduled to fit in with those who wished to attend Anzac Day services in and around the community or even the big parade in Brisbane before joining us. Everyone who came in through the main entrance of the club was greeted with a moving display created by David & Diane Elwood.

Element’s Anzac Day ceremony included the Last Post followed by a minute’s silence and the Reveille, and a traditional recitation of the fourth stanza of the poem ‘For the Fallen’ by Laurence Binyon, now referred to as the Ode. This commemoration ended with the raising of the Australian flag.

The group then went on to enjoy afternoon tea with customary Anzac biscuits and other sweet and savoury treats.

A wonderful opportunity for our residents to spend quality time with each other while remembering those who gave their lives to keep ours safe.
