This year at Elements Retirement Village, we hosted our very own covid-safe Melbourne Cup lunch!
Over 100 Elements family and friends came together in celebration of Race That Stops The Nation. Residents and their guest feasted on chicken, prawns, salads, and bread rolls, accompanied by bottomless beers and bubbles.
In true Melbourne Cup style, each person in attendance of the annual event were frocked up in their Spring Racing finest! The gents sported the best shirts and ties, and the women took our breath away with beautiful dresses and showstopping fascinators. The day included a Best Dressed competition and despite it being an especially close call with everyone looking amazing, the winners of the male and female best dressed was awarded to John and Mary.
The fashion favourites each won a dinner for two at the final monthly dinner of 2020. Not only was a great time had by all, but we were also lucky enough to be able to give back at this Elements event.
The Cup for a Cause
Our Elements community always looks for an opportunity to give back, and our Melbourne Cup event was no exception. Resident Annie generously leant her time and talents to add colour and flare to this year’s Melbourne Cup event. Annie created a colourful variety of hats, fascinators, and ties which residents were able to hire for the day by donation. Our residents were spoiled for choice with the selection. All proceeds from this arrangement were donated to Karma’s Place Rescue. Thanks to Annie’s talent and creativity, we were able to raise $950.
So many of our wonderful residents participate in worthwhile community initiatives, using our social events to not only bring our community together for fun and entertainment, but to join forces and make a difference in any capacity. Witnessing the creativity and skill of our residents, like Annie, is always a pleasure and never fails to spread joy. It is even better when our resident’s skills provide us with the opportunity to support a cause that we all care for.
Karma’s Place Rescue Inc. is a small non-profit, volunteer organisation who devote their efforts to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need. We love pets at Elements (there are always plenty of pooches to pat around the village), so it was our pleasure to be able to support this fabulous “pet friendly” organisation. Karma’s Place Rescue are built on compassion, strong ethics, and morals which they apply throughout everyone animal and human interaction. Their biggest mission is to provide better lives to animals which have been orphaned, abused, neglected or are unwanted. Karma’s Place Rescue do not believe in deadlines, they will devote as much time necessary until each animal can be placed in a forever home where they will be loved and cared for appropriately.
An Elements Social Life
At Elements we believe in the importance of staying connected within our community, sharing experiences and creating memories. We strive to keep a busy, fun, and exciting social calendar all year round. These events happening throughout the year allow us to regularly bring everyone together. Although it does not take much to gather our community. We owe many of our great shared memories to the community centre facility at Elements Living Retirement Village, as it has played host to several events over the years. Our residents come from all walks of life, and the community centre soirees provide an opportunity for everyone to connect on mutual interests, learn about one another and form new friendships.
Until next year, Melbourne Cup!
