“Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” – Gustave Flaubert
At Elements, the want to travel is a common desire shared amongst our residents. You’ll often find members of our community comparing their travel stories or mapping out their next adventure.
Anything from cruising across Australia to jetting off on an international holiday- you name it, our residents do it. While some trips are planned between the residents themselves, Elements also offers a yearly trip abroad, alongside frequent day trips to nearby towns and attractions including Manly, Stanthorpe, and Birkdale gardens. This encourages residents to feed their travel desires.
We caught up with a group of residents to reflect on their travel highlights – they spoke of their recent trips with fond memories, including spending time with friends and family, and immersing themselves in different cultures.
One of these adventures saw 11 residents embark on a three-day cruise, sailing out of Sydney Harbour. Residents enjoyed docking at Newcastle for the day, visiting some of the historic sites before indulging in great entertainment and delicious food onboard as the cruise voyaged back home to Brisbane.
Everyone loved the three-day adventure, with one first-time cruise couple saying, “Our cruise out of beautiful Sydney Harbour and home to Brisbane was a great introduction to ocean cruising. With special company, a beautiful ship, attentive staff, great entertainment and delicious food involving no cooking, what more could one want?”
Another resident travelled to Port Moresby in PNG late last year to visit family. On arrival, the streets were decorated with flags and banners in celebration of 44 years of independence from Australia. After spending time with family, visiting schools and basking in the entertainment offered by locals, it was time to return home.
While some may argue that it’s best to travel in your youth, our residents are proof that the travel bug can bite at any age- and you can have the time of your life doing it! A testament that age should not limit your desire to see new places.
