As part of a Logan City Council program, free technology training sessions have been underway at Elements to encourage new or additional IT skills for interested Happy Living community members.
The first session, in July, covered the basics of internet security and taught residents how to avoid internet fraud, spam and malware. The second, which took place in August, was an introduction to the broad range of online resources offered by Logan City Council Library Free ebooks, digital audiobooks, online newspapers and e-magazines can now be accessed with ease by any attending resident. The September session covers online shopping and banking. After the initial cybersecurity session, residents unfamiliar with webshops and payment platforms reported they were now more confident when making secure online purchases.
Next up is the opportunity to find out about the free digital genealogy resources available out there and how to access local and international newspaper archives – an often forgotten source of important genealogical data that goes back for centuries.
